This workshop will be a great opportunity for young people from racialised (those who have been othered due to race) backgrounds within the community, and who have both not accessed and accessed CAMHS, to discuss:

  • What psychological distress means to them
  • The barriers they face to accessing services
  • Co-producing ideas for a potential ongoing group run by CAMHS

We hope to develop an anti-racist space that helps to look at the following themes:

  • Identity
  • Racial stigmas
  • Institutions (school, police, mental health services)
  • Defining trauma due to racism
  • Religion/spirituality
  • Intergenerational wounds/ Self- care

It will be a casual non-judgemental space, with interactive elements and a space for young people to reflect and connect with peers.

If any young people or parents have any questions about the workshop, they can contact Shinola.edwards@slam.nhs.uk, Jamila.nembhard@slam.nhs.uk and bhavna.sennik@slam.nhs.uk
